Orange County Container Group Installs Industry’s Largest Color Scanning System

Danvers, MA (April 3, 2012) TECHKON USA – the innovation leader in densitometers, spectrophotometers and software solutions for the global print and packaging communities, announced today that Orange County Container Group LLC (“OCC Group”), a leading integrated paperboard and paper-based packaging manufacturer with locations in both the U.S. and Mexico, has installed the industry’s largest custom SpectroDrive® automated color measurement scanning system. Developed by Techkon, this SpectroDrive system was manufactured with a custom 78” scanning track to meet specific color control and production requirements for OCC Group’s package printing facility in Tijuana, Mexico.

The Techkon SpectroDrive system consists of two components: the motorized measurement system which scans the complete color bar on a printed sheet within seconds; and the Techkon Expresso® software, which simultaneously receives the spectral measurement data wirelessly on a PC where all the relevant information for controlling the printing press is displayed.

This customized Techkon SpectroDrive, with its automated color and density measurement capabilities mounted on the 78” track, enables press operators to read 52 individual ink zones across the press sheet. Instantaneously, SpectroDrive wirelessly communicates highly accurate color data via the Techkon Expresso software interface and allows operators to make critical color corrections on press and substantially increase productivity by ensuring consistent print-to-print accuracy throughout the press run.

As a multi-site packaging printer for Dos Equis, Panasonic and other major brands, successful implementation of this solution was as critical to OCC Group as the design itself. Techkon USA’s technical team worked closely with plant management to assess current production, understand specific packaging needs, and design an implementation plan.— with the measurement of an entire 78” color bar in less than 15 seconds and the swift display of highly accurate spectral color data at their fingertips, OCC Group press operators could react quickly to changing press room conditions. They found the Techkon Expresso software to be very intuitive and easy to navigate, and with the ability to analyze post press data, they can continuously deliver a quality product that exceeds their packaging customers’ expectations.
